John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix - Bold As Love | Solo Guitar/Rhythm Part

I’m going to try to really dig into learning this song tomorrow, this should be a helpful reference.

On Battle Studies; ”This was incredibly precisely drawn out as a melodic record, which made it really hard to sing. I had to learn as a singer how to accept being able to sing these passages and distinct notes. And if you miss them, you miss the melody, instead of if you miss them, you’re just bluesin’ it up.”

Haha, “just bluesin’ it up”. :-)

Since I watched that Austin City Limits Interview Last Night

I’ve remembered how big of a John Mayer fan I used to be. Time to go iron a picture of him onto a shirt…kidding (only because he’s not touring this summer) ;-) I’m listening to Heavier Things now and relearning ‘Clarity’ on guitar.

It thrills me to no end to play it along with the You Tube clip of JM playing it acoustic and to look up and see his hands playing the exact same chords. I feel like yes yes I’m really doing it!! And for a few seconds I can believe I’m just as good as JM at guitar!!!! (although, I know not really…, but I’m trying to enjoy my Saturday so :-P).

Totally falling in love with this Gulag Orkestar album. I looked up an interview with Zach Condon and noticed that the interviewer was Marc Hogan :-) What a blast from the John Mayer (mystupidmouth) message board past :-)

"I’d love to teach kids songwriting, ‘cause I think that it’s a skill, it’s not really innate. I mean, you could have like sort of a gift, sort of a brain for writing a song, but I’d love to teach songwriting. That’s one of my dreams, I’d like to teach at Berklee College of Music in Boston, have office hours, develop inappropriate crushes on my students."

I’m writing you to catch you up on places I’ve been
You held this letter probably got excited, but there’s nothing else inside it

Didn’t have a camera by my side this time
Hoping I would see the world with both my eyes
Maybe I will tell you all about when
I’m in the mood to lose my way with words

Today, skies are painted colors of a cowboy’s cliche
And strange how clouds that look like mountains in the sky
Are next to mountains anyway

Didn’t have a camera by my side this time
Hoping I would see the world with both my eyes
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I’m
In the mood to lose my way
But let me say
You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes
It brought me back to life
You’ll be with me next time
I go outside
Just no more 3x5s

"Nobody’s going to tell me I can’t. I’d just say, ‘Don’t tell me what I can’t do, motherfucker. Of course I can.’ I mean, look at what I’ve done in my life. I don’t have any reason to believe that anything I think of is impossible. That makes me annoying sometimes. But it has all come true. All of it."
